Ampeleia is Roccatederighi.
Roccatederighi is the charming village that watches over us from above, unique in its own way. It sits on a volcanic rock spur, 538 meters above sea level. From here, you can take in an incredible view of the Grosseto Maremma, and on clear days, your eyes can travel as far as the Island of Giglio, then Elba, and even the distant Corsica.
It’s said that the Sienese got their idea for the Palio from Roccatederighi, where a donkey race has been held since 1295.
Ampeleia is Parco Archeologico di Baratti e Populonia.
Ampeleia is high up, yes, but it also feels the sea breeze. From our terrace, we can see the coast, and if we want to get to the beach, it’s just a half-hour away. This is where the Etruscans learned to sail, between the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian Seas. The Archaeological Park is located here, between the Piombino promontory and the Gulf of Baratti, and it includes the ancient city of Populonia, known for its historical iron production.

Less than half an hour from here, among the hills of Val di Merse, there’s a timeless place full of magic. And just a short walk away, you’ll find the sword in the stone , placed here by the knight Galgano Guidotti when he gave up war to embrace peace. It’s a story rooted in myth, and it belongs to our land.
